Mastermind Brian Kelly adds another top defensman for the 2012 class. Ronald Darby has verbally committed to Notre Dame. He is a Cornerback (also played running back in high school) from Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Ronald was ranked in the top 100 recruits. His best asset right now is his speed. He recorded the fastest 40 time in the country at the Under Armour combine (4.31 seconds) and the highest vertical jump (36 inches). In track during high school, he ran the 3rd fastest time in the nation in the 55 meter dash (6.28 seconds), 4th fastest in the 60 meters (6.77 seconds), and also 1st in the nation in the 200 meter dash (21.24 seconds).
Here’s what his high school football coach, Ronnie Crump, had to say about this kid:
“Ronald Darby is the deluxe package. He has electrifying speed and the uncanny ability to make the big play on offense, defense and on special teams. He’s a great teammate and a great young man. Right now, he relies on his speed. He needs to learn how to read eyes and body language and that will come to him if he wants to survive in college.”
Seems like a great pick-up if you ask me. If Kelly can improve his defensive skills and techniques (which we all know Coach Kelly can do), then he should have great success and help give the Irish faithful something to cheer for in the coming years.
