Today was the first step of Notre Dame’s promising seasonn with the first official day of training camp for the team. Not only was it a fresh start for everyone, we also recieved an update on the quarterback race.
Quarterback situation- Dayne Crist took first team snaps today. Wearing a knee brace for extra caution, Crist performed well. Here’s what coach Brian Kelly had to say on the situation:
“After having two knee surgeries, sometimes you get a little protective of your lower body … and you’re feeling your way through that. I didn’t sense that at all. I felt he was really aggressive with his throwing. He was spinning the ball very tight. That wasn’t what I saw in the spring — I thought he was tentative in the spring.”
For Dayne, this was a positive practice (despite the rainy weather).
Tommy Rees took reps with the first team as well after Dayne completed his. Next was Andrew Hendrix with the second team, and then Everett Golson after him.
Other notes- Here’s what Brian Kelly’s thoughts were on the first day of practice:
I’m just comparing it to where we were on the first day last year. I think I probably wouldn’t have made the press conference if I didn’t think we’d made significant progress. I would have been up in my office. But I’m here, so our guys have made significant progress from last year to this year. Our guys know what to do. We were a lot more efficient out there today.”
Also, Michael Floyd was happy to be back other doing what he does best, catching. He looked sharp as well.
