Yes, Notre Dame has an undefeated home winning streak at 26 games, yes they have a winning record, and yes they are coming off of a year where they finished second in the Big East Regular Season. But, this year’s team is completely different and made up of new people. With these new faces in the starting lineup comes new expectations, and here is what I expect from them for this year.
The Irish have two seniors on the team. One of them (Tim Abromaitis), is out for the season due to an injury. So, the starting five are young. They have little experience in big games and maybe aren’t adjusted from the high school transition. They are skilled, but that can only take you so far in this brutal conference.
Another thing that stands out to me is the offense. Eric Atkins is an obvious leader, Alex Dragicevich is a standout shooter, Jack Cooley has the size and potential; but, none of this matters if they haven’t had any game-time experience with the offense. They might have played for 5-8 minutes “here or there” last year, but they haven’t played with the team while they were in full game-speed. It is something that only time will take.
Okay, here is what I expect from the Irish this year…
- To finish the season with a 8-10 record
- To qualify for the NIT Tournament
- To place (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in the NIT tournament
No it is not the season I want it to be, but from what I am seeing now, that’s the way its going to end up. I am not going to guarantee that this will happen because anything can happen. Lets just hope the “luck of the Irish” is on our side.
