The standings above are the up-to-date standings in the Big East (men’s). Notre Dame is sitting up strong in 4th. Anywhere in the top 5 is exceptional for the Irish and are beyond anyone’s expectations after Abromitius went down with a season ending injury. I have much more faith after their wins against Pittsburgh, Louisville, and South Florida.
If Notre Dame sets the tempo of the game to their slow, half court offense, then they can compete with most teams from the Big East. If they can’t play the slow tempo, then they will have a tough time winnings any games (see the Cincinnati game for reference). Don’t expect Notre Dame to score many points in a game, but look for them to compete with most teams for the rest of the season.
Last year, the Big East sent a record breaking 11 teams to the NCAA tournament. I don’t believe that many teams to make it this year, but I do expect around 10 teams to be selected for the March Madness. If Notre Dame can keep up the way they play, then they are definitely a contender for a spot in the NCAA tournament 2 months from now.
