ESPN Big East Power Rankings

Dana O’Neil of ESPN wrote a great article on the Big East today. The article she wrote was her power rankings of the Big East for this week. The top 5 were expected and as follows:

  1. Syracuse
  2. Georgetown
  3. Marquette
  4. West Virginia
  5. Cincinnati

Coming in at number 6 was Notre Dame, which was a bit surprising to me because of the  of teams that were still left. Here’s her explanation/ opinion on the Irish.

“Perhaps the Irish should schedule more games against No. 1 teams. Notre Dame upset Syracuse for its eighth win against a top-ranked team. This after losing to Rutgers on the road.” - Dana O’Neil

Notable teams that are behind Notre Dame:

  • Louisville (7th)
  • UCONN (9th)
  • Rutgers (12th)

I am just as confident about Notre Dame as any other Irish fan, but we still have a long ways to go. Notre Dame has to win more games for this win to even matter for their NCAA Tournament bid. I’m sure Mike Brey knows his team can only take it one game at a time, starting with Wednesday’s road game at DePaul.
