Notre Dame landed one of their best defensive recruits of the 2013 class on Saturday. Outside linebacker Jaylon Smith committed to take his talents to South Bend.
The 6 ft 3 in, 215 player from Bishop Luers High School was expected to go with Notre Dame, but took his time making a decision.
“The thing was, when I saw it, I knew,” Smith told 247Sports. “But the thing was, when you first see something and you’re so geeked up about it, later on, it doesn’t end up being so cool. I wanted to make sure that’s where I wanted to go. It never wore off. And I wanted to get back to Ohio State and give other teams a shot and see if anyone was better than Notre Dame.” -cbssports.com
With Manti T’eo leaving next year, this is a great find for Notre Dame. He is a very good at stopping the run and has terrific tackling ability, all things we will miss from T’eo. This 4-star pickup is exactly what Brian Kelly can work with. He sure can develop into a superstar for the Irish.
He reported offers from Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC.
Smith’s brother, Rod, is a running back from Ohio Sate. So, some people thought that he would head to Columbus with his brother. Thankfully, they were wrong.
