According to Rivals.com, Notre Dame currently has 22 commitments for the 2013 season. This includes one 5 star player, twelve 4 star players, and nine 3 star players. Currently Notre Dame is ranked 2nd overall in recruiting. Yesterday Notre Dame landed Cole Luke one of the biggest recruiting surprises yet this season. Of the defensive backs that Notre Dame was targeting, Cole Luke was one of the recruits that was very unlikely to commit to Notre Dame. Anzalone looks to visit Notre Dame this weekend for the Pitt game, hoping to sure up his commitment to the Fighting Irish.

Cole Luke

Luke is a defensive back that stands 6’ 170 pounds. He committed yesterday after considering Oklahoma and Texas. Luke was visiting Oklahoma when Notre Dame came into Norman and beat the Sooners 30-13. Was this one of the deciding factors? Possibly, but you have to look at the opportunity to play his freshman and sophomore year. The secondary is very thin at Notre Dame and this class will in fact add depth to it. Also, when Notre Dame took on Michigan, Cole Luke was on his official visit. A solid defensive back is exactly what the Irish needed to solidify this recruiting class. Luke is a very good cover corner who has good technique and phenomenal ball skills. He is good with the run, but his tackling technique needs some work. Don’t let him get any open space after an interception, because he has good vision and agility to make guys miss.

Alex Anzalone

It’s an ongoing saga whether it is Notre Dame or Florida, or Florida or Notre Dame. It has been reported that Anzalone will visit South Bend this weekend for an official visit. Can the coaching staff keep Anzalone with the Irish? We will know more after the weekend is over and look for more information about his visit next week.

A.Q. Muhammad

Has denied that he silently committed to Notre Dame, and Muhammad plans to announce his decision during the Army All-American game. He would be a great addition to an already solid defensive line. Muhammad is a solid pass rusher that uses his foot and hand quickness to avoid those offensive linemen. Since Notre Dame likes to keep their big fellas fresh he could see limited playing time his freshman year if not, definitely his sophomore year.

Danny Mattingly

He has denied that there is a potential for a flip to Washington. He went on an official visit to Washington a couple weeks back. Washington State and Stanford were said to be possibilities too. As we would like to take his word, no one really knows what he will do as of now. If he was to de-commit then there would be a possibility for Isaac Savaiinaea to commit, but only if the Irish lose a recruit.

Khalfani Muhammad

According to Rivals.com it was reported that he wanted to commit during his visit when Notre Dame took on Michigan, but the Notre Dame coaching staff wanted to wait. Now with Folston on the fence about committing is it time that the Irish go back after Khalfani? He would add speed to the running back group, with Jamel James being a power back.

Overall, a good recruiting week for Notre Dame while landing Cole Luke and with Anzalone’s official visit this weekend the Irish might be able to seal the deal. Notre Dame could take at the max 2 more recruits and it looks like another defensive back, defensive end, or running back are the most likely.
