Notre Dame began the 2012-2013 basketball season with a 58-49 win over the Evansville Purple Aces. The Offense looked hesitant and stagnant at times. Jack Cooley led the Fighting Irish with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 blocks. Mike Brey used a 7 man rotation in today’s ball game against Evansville. This included newcomers Cameron Biedscheid and Garrick Sherman. The outstanding Freshman Forward Cameron Biedscheid had 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Sherman added 3 points off the bench.
Notre Dame’s Offense looked slow and stagnant. The Irish seemed hesitant to pull the trigger at times. The Irish worked the ball around the perimeter and through the post. But when the Irish had the opportunity to take a shot, they hesitated to take the shot. They overpassed the ball at times.
The Defense looked solid as Notre Dame moved from man to man to a 2-3 extended zone defense. This took the Purple Aces out of sync offensively only giving up 49 total points. In the next game, the Irish will need to improve their Offense game to become a Top 25 team in the country. The Irish could probably afford to expand the rotation from 7 to 9 men but this has been the style of Mike Brey in his tenure at Notre Dame.
