Notre Dame Football Recruiting Update: Irish Pursue 5-Star Defensive Tackle

Tonight, Notre Dame had an in home visit with Eddie Vanderdoes, a Southern California commitment. Vanderdoes is a tremendous talent out of Auburn, California. He is ranked as the 12th best player in the nation according to That same recruiting service also has him as the 2nd Defensive Tackle.

He checks in at 6’2.5” 302. Vanderdoes would be a perfect replacement to Louis Nix III when he leaves South Bend for the NFL. Currently, other than Nix, Notre Dame does not have the Nose Guard type on their roster. Landing Vanderdoes would go a long way towards maintaining the advantage that Notre Dame holds in the trenches against most teams.

Despite being committed to USC, Vanderdoes has been exploring his options. This past weekend, he visited SC’s crosstown rival UCLA for their game against Stanford. He also has an official visit set up for Cal on December 7th. Early in November, he took an official visit to Washington (who also had an in home visit with Vanderdoes). Vanderdoes is exploring the option of taking his final visit to either LSU or Notre Dame.

If Notre Dame is able to secure a visit from Vanderdoes then they will have a fighting chance at landing his signature on Signing Day. It is important to remember that Notre Dame is coming into the process late. Relationships are important when landing commitments. The Fighting Irish may be lacking in that category.
