As reported before on Slap The Sign, Notre Dame was pursuing 5-Star Defensive Tackle Eddie Vanderdoes. At that time, he was deciding between LSU and Notre Dame for his final visit. A decision has come from Vanderdoes. He will visit Notre Dame instead of LSU. Therefore, Vanderdoes’ top five schools are USC, Washington, UCLA, Notre Dame and California. At this point, he has only taken a trip to UCLA and only has one other scheduled for Notre Dame.

Vanderdoes is ranked as the 12th best player in the nation according to 247Sports.com. That same recruiting service also has him as the 2nd Defensive Tackle. He checks in at 6’2.5” 302. Vanderdoes would be a perfect replacement to Louis Nix III when he leaves South Bend for the NFL. Currently, other than Nix, Notre Dame does not have the Nose Guard type on their roster. Landing Vanderdoes would go a long way towards maintaining the advantage that Notre Dame holds in the trenches against most teams.

Since Vanderdoes has a visit scheduled, they will have a fighting chance at landing his signature on Signing Day. It is important to remember that Notre Dame is coming into the process late. Relationships are important when landing commitments. The Fighting Irish may be lacking in that category.
