Jimmy Byrne is a 4-star recruit from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Byrne’s decision came down to Notre Dame, a Catholic institution like his High School, and Ohio State, the in-state power. He was recruited by Notre Dame Offensive Line Coach Harry Hiestand and former Notre Dame Offensive Line Coach Ed Warinner. Byrne choose the former on all of those decisions.

Byrne is a tremendous player. Several recruiting services have him highly rated. Rivals.com has Byrne rated a 4-star recruit. He is ranked as the 16th best Offensive Guard and rated as a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports. Scout.com has Byrne rated as a 4-star recruit.

Byrne is the first Offensive Line recruit in the 2014 class and the fourth recruit overall. Prior to his commitment, Notre Dame received commitments from LB Greer Martini, WR Justin Brent and DT Jay Hayes. This recruiting victory over a resurgent Ohio State club is major. It shows that regardless of region Notre Dame can dominate on the recruiting trail.
