Nick Saban Versus Notre Dame

Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban has faced off against Notre Dame multiple times when he was the coach of Michigan State. On January 7th, 2013, Nick Saban will face off against Notre Dame again.

1997: Michigan State 23-Notre Dame 7

Then No. 17 ranked Michigan State defeated Notre Dame in Notre Dame Stadium. Notre Dame just gained 61 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Ron Powlus was 23 for 37 for 181 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The Spartans had two 100-yard rushers.

1998: Notre Dame 23-Michigan State 45

For a second straight year, Nick Saban and Michigan State Spartans defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This time, the Irish were defeated in East Lansing, Michigan. The Spartans started off the game, 42-3.

1999: Michigan State 23-Notre Dame 13

Nick Saban beat Notre Dame for a third time. A 13-13 fourth quarter tie was broken when MSU quarterback Bill Burke hit Gari Scott for an 80-yard touchdown pass in helping Michigan State win 23-13.

Notre Dame has never defeated a Nick Saban coached team. Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish will have their opportunity to change that on January 7th.
