Notre Dame Opponent Player Preview: C.J. Mosley

Alabama does not have a Manti Te’o but they do have a C.J. Mosley. The Junior Linebacker leads the Crimson Tide Defense much like Te’o does. Mosley will have a huge impact on the game Monday night. Fans should expect his name to be called early and often.

Mosley has collected 99 tackles this year. This total ranks 89th in the nation and is 4 behind Te’o season total of 103. Mosley has also intercepted 2 passes, returning one for a touchdown. This came against Denard Robinson and Michigan in the opening game of the season. Mosley has also collected 7 tackles for loss.

Mosley has ideal height and weight for a linebacker. One of the most notable characteristics about him is that he has played in every game he has been healthy for at Alabama. Needless to say, he is an extremely experienced Linebacker.

Scheming around Mosley will be hard but it will ultimately be up to one of the interior linemen to get to the second level and put a body on him. This is probably how Alabama will attack Manti Te’o. But, Mosley is just not a threat in the running game. He can also be a menace in the passing game. Throwing the ball over the middle in his direction may be dangerous. However, if Notre Dame gets a matchup that they like such as Mosley against Riddick or Eifert, the Fighting Irish should take it to the bank. But, because Mosley is a tackling machine as all Inside Linebackers are, it is unlikely that he will stay out of the mix for too long. He is going to make plays. The question is how many.
