Notre Dame Football Recruiting Update: Kylie Fitts

Notre Dame wants another Defensive Line/Outside Linebacker hybrid in the 2013 class. After losing out on A.Q. Muhammad, they still have a few names in the mix. California Defensive End Kylie Fitts is one of them.

At 6’4” 245 lbs, Fitts is a great fit for the CAT Linebacker position. To compare to current CAT Linebackers, Prince Shembo and Ishaq Williams were 6’2” 232 and 6’6” 235. With his size, he could eventually grow into a Defensive End. This is similar to 2012 Recruit Romeo Okwara who was 6’5” 240 coming out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Kyle Fitts committed to USC in April 2012. Fitts then decommitted from USC on January 8th of this year. Although it was not clarified by Fitts himself, it was apparent that his scholarship was pulled by the Trojans. Because of the some recent commitments to Southern Cal, the Trojans were over their limited 75 scholarship limit and needed to find a way under it.

Fitts is now considering Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Oregon and Alabama. It will be critical for the Fighting Irish to get Fitts on campus for an Official Visit. No visit means no commitment. The Top 5 for Fitts features three schools in the Pac 12 and both National Title Game teams. It seems more likely that Fitts would select one of the Pac 12 schools based on location. It has been rumored that he was a long time USC fan. If Lane Kiffin could cure the ill will between the two parties, Fitts could re-commit to the Trojans.

As for the Fighting Irish, getting Fitts on campus is critical. It is impossible to do that until the Brian Kelly situation is finished.
