Preview: Notre Dame @ DePaul

Notre Dame will face off against the DePaul Blue Demons tomorrow at 2 p.m. on ESPN 2. Notre Dame is coming off good performances against Villanova and South Florida. Jerian Grant is really starting to come into his own in his junior season thus far. He is averaging 12.7 points per game, 5.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this season. Grant is a solid shooter, drives the lane well, and is an underrated passer especially when driving. Cooley is coming off of a double double performance against Villanova and is averaging a double double for the season (14.5 PPG and 11.0 Rebounds). Tom Knight has been improving his mid-range jumper, which many saw against the Villanova Wildcats. Don’t sleep on the Diaper Dandy! Cameron Biedscheid lit it up against the Wildcats with team high 18 points, while shooting 5-8 from the field and 5-7 behind the arc. He is a very deadly shooter and look for him to improve on his driving ability as the season goes on.

DePaul is currently sitting 10-10 and 1-6 in the Big East this season (second to last in the league). Cleveland Melvin is their star forward and at 6’8’’ who thrives in the fast break. Melvin has some decent range on his jumper, but will spend most of his time heading to the basket to score. Brandon Young is another star player for DePaul and he is a good complement to Melvin. If the Irish can stop the Blue Demons tandem in Melvin and Young look for Notre Dame to run away with this game.

The Irish will win this game 76-65 and be heading into the game against Syracuse on a three game winning streak. The Irish will take on the Orange on February 4th in the Carrier Dome at 7 p.m.
