Commitment Date: 04/26/2012
Heuerman committed to Notre Dame over Ohio State in April. His brother currently plays fro the Ohio State Buckeyes. Heuerman has an impressive offer list that includes Alabama, Florida State and Oregon. He checks in a 6’4” 220. With the uncertain Tight End situation in South Bend, Heuerman could be used early and often. His pass catching skills could be an immediate asset to an Offense that like to feature the Tight End in the slot.
From the Slap the Sign Evaluation:
Tight Ends is a uniques position because it forces an athlete to be two very different positions. On one hand, a Tight End is an extension of the Offensive Line. On the other hand, he is also a Wide Receiver who can create mismatches in the passing game. Heuerman can definitely develop into an all around Tight End but he is definitely further along in the passing game. As a receiver, Heuerman has the speed at 4.69 to outrun many Linebackers. In his highlights, he makes the first guy miss then takes it to the house. As a blocker, Heuerman makes up for his lack of technique with ferocity. In many clips, he can be seen taking the Defensive Linemen, Linebacker or Cornerback to the ground. He blocks to the whistle. His technique should improve with proper coaching. Currently, Heuerman is 6’4” 220. He is enrolling early at Notre Dame which will give him an opportunity to grow into a player who could play his Freshman year. If he does play in 2013, it will probably be in passing situations.
