Notre Dame Football Recruiting: McGlinchey Signs Letter of Intent

Mike McGlinchey

Offensive Linemen

Philadelphia, PA

Commitment Date: 3/25/12

High School Highlights

At 6’9” 280, McGlinchey represents the biggest frame of all Notre Dame signees. He committed to Notre Dame on March 25, 2012 following a Junior Day visit to Notre Dame. He followed up that visit with an Official to Notre Dame for the football banquet. With McGlinchey’s length, it is hard to see him playing anything other than Tackle. Honestly, it is difficult to see him playing anything other Left Tackle. Like most young Offensive Linemen, McGlinchey needs time to mold his body. At 6’9″ 280, he is almost skinny. Adding another 40 pounds does not seem unreasonable. At that point, he will be ready to make a contribution on the field.

From the Slap the Sign Evaluation:

A problem that McGlinchey would have a 6’9″ would be playing with leverage. But, based on his High School film, this does not appear to be the case. It will always be a challenge for him, however. Someone of that size will have a difficult time getting under a Defensive Linemen who is at most 6’5″ or 6’6″. Initially, it seemed like McGlinchey would be well suited for Left Tackle since he has such a long frame. However, he looks more like a “road grader” type of player who would be better suited from the Right Tackle position.
