Notre Dame Football Recruiting: McGovern Signs Letter of Intent

Offensive Line

New Lenox, Illinois

Commitment Date: 3/24/12

High School Highlights

McGovern committed during the Junior Day when two other linemen, Bivin and McGlinchey, committed to Notre Dame. McGovern was an Under Armour All-American but did not participate due to a foot injury. McGovern like all linemen needs to develop physically in the weight room. With several Guards in front of him, it may be a while until McGovern plays. If he wants to play before his Junior or Senior year, he is going to have to push his way into the starting lineup.

From the Slap the Sign Evaluation:

McGovern is extremely athletic and fast for his size. In one play, he runs almost in stride with the Running Back of his High School. This can also be seen in how fast he fires off the ball. In many plays, it appears that he has made his first step and applied the block as the ball is being snapped. McGovern needs to add weight to his frame. In his film, he looks skinny and is probably not a legit 284 lbs. However, he looks to have a great deal of talent to work with in the future once he adds that weight.
