It appears that our initial suspicions about Gunner Kiel were correct. On Thursday, Irish Sports Daily reported that Gunner Kiel would transfer from Notre Dame.Gunner Kiel had spoke of transferring before Notre Dame played Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game.
“It honestly hasn’t,” Kiel said. “I’ve been more focused on the season and been more focused on school and other things that are more important to me.”
No schools have been named as suitors to land Kiel but Indiana would be a smart bet at this point. The Hoosiers were the original team that landed a commitment from Kiel. He spurned the Hoosiers for LSU because he wanted to play big time college football. Of course, those feelings have not changed but he will not have a choice of every school because Notre Dame can limit where he can transfer. In other words, LSU is probably not an option. Plus, Les Miles burnt that bridge. Vanderbilt and Head Coach James Franklin are also an option.
As for the Fighting Irish, the transfer of Kiel leaves them with 4 Quarterbacks. Landing a Quarterback in this recruiting cycle became just that more important. It also means that Tommy Rees will again be the back up for Everett Golson.
