The last time these two teams met the Golden Eagles defeated the Irish, 72-64.

Notre Dame were their new Adidas neon green jerseys, which fans appear to either love or hate. The Golden Eagles started with a flurry of made shots that took them out to a 7-0 lead. By the under 11 timeout, Notre Dame had only 4 points and trailed Marquette by 13 points. But then, the Fighting Irish came to life. Notre Dame ended the half on a 25-8 to take a 29-25 lead.

In the second half, the Irish and Eagles traded blows. Jerian Grant took an ill advised three pointer under 3 minutes to go but Jack Cooley got the offensive rebound and kicked to Connaughton. Connaughton knocked down the 3-pointer to take a 7 point lead. After Marquette answered with a bucket, Jerian Grant found Atkins under the basket for an “And 1″.

The Irish were led by Pat Connaughton’s hot shooting from behind the arch. He scored 18 points on 6-10 shooting from downtown.

Notre Dame moves on to play in the semifinals for the fourth year in a row. Notre Dame is 0-6 in semifinal games in the Big East tournament. The Irish will play Louisville.
