Notre Dame began their journey to Pasadena on Wednesday with their first spring practice. The Irish were in “shells”, which are simply just shorts, jerseys and helmets. NCAA rules prevent the Irish from practicing in full pads immediately. Coach Elliot returned to the practice field after having kidney surgery in the off-season.
A critical storylines began to take shape on Wednesday when the first team Offensive Line trotted out onto the field. As expected, Zack Martin and Chris Watt occupied the two positions left of Center. At the Center spot was Junior Nick Martin. Legacy Conor Hanratty began at Right Guard. Veteran Christian Lombard started at Right Tackle. Of course, this does not mean that these are the players will be the starters against Temple. However, this is who the coaches are starting out with.
Kona Schwenke was absent from practice this morning. Replacing him on the 2nd team was 5th year player Tyler Stockton. Stephon Tuitt did not participate in drills but was on the stationary bike. Joining him there were recovering players Dan Fox, Bennett Jackson and Nicky Baratti.
More coming soon on Notre Dame’s first practice!
