The Fighting Irish continued their excellent start to the 2014 recruiting cycle with a verbal commitment from New Jersey Defensive Linemen Andrew Trumbetti. According 247Sports.com, Trumbetti ranks 101st nationally, 7th as a Strongside Defensive End and 3rd in the state of New Jersey. All of those numbers add up to one huge pick up for Notre Dame.

Trumbetti checks in at 6’5” 240lbs and is from Demarest, New Jersey. He had 12 offers including premier schools such as Florida and Miami. Ultimately, he landed with the Irish during his Junior Day visit on March 23rd.

The Defensive End had been a considered a Notre Dame lean since early in the process. He camped at Notre Dame last summer where he picked up an Irish offer. It took less than a year for Brian Kelly and his staff to seal the deal.

Trumbetti should grow into an excellent Defensive End for the Fighting Irish. However, his athleticism will allow him to play CAT linebacker if the Irish allow him to do so early on in his career.

Trumbetti is the 5th commitment for the Fighting Irish. They have already landed Wide Receiver Justin Brent, Defensive End Jay Hayes, Linebacker Greer Martini and Offensive Linemen Jimmy Byrne.
