Notre Dame has lost one of the first recruiting battles of the season. After gaining ground this weekend with the Offensive Tackle from Florida, McDermott gave his pledge to Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes according to State of the U.

In the end, though, the familiarity with Miami, the city, and his brother being able to share the field with him won out. Kc is an elite offensive line talent, ranked as a 4 star recruit on most sites, but a 5 star according to the 247Sports.com Composite rankings. He stands 6 foot 6, and checks in at 285 pounds. He is ranked in the top 5 in his position, and he should finish out his senior year ranked higher.
This is a difficult loss for the Irish coaching staff to swallow. However, it is only April. Notre Dame coaches still have time to evaluate and target new players at the tackle position. It is likely that the player may not be of McDermott’s caliber but the Irish should fill their needs.
Notre Dame currently has one Offensive Line commitment from Jimmy Byrne, an Offensive Guard/Tackle from Cleveland, Ohio. Notre Dame will most likely take 5 Offensive Linemen again in this class because of a lack of depth.
UPDATE: Despite several reports that KC McDermott has already committed to the University of Miami, the Miami Sun Sentinel is reporting the 4-star Offensive Line will announce his college decision next Tuesday, April 2nd in a ceremony at his school.
