Projections have Tyler Eifert going from anywhere from the 13th pick to the 30th pick. According to the mock draft experts on NFL.com, Eifert could land with the Jets, Packers, Falcons and 49ers. 3 of the 4 players.
13th in the draft seems extremely high for Eifert. CBSSports.com has Eifert as the 18th best draft prospect in the 2013 draft. Also, landing with the Jets would not be the best start to his career. The prospects of playing with what Mel Kiper described as “a glorified expansion team” are not great. Mark Sanchez will likely be the starter again. Even though this would mean more money for Eifert, it might not be good in the long run.
The next three destinations sound much more appealing. Packers, Falcons and 49ers all have settled Quarterback situations. All have explosive Offenses. Additionally, each has a spot where Eifert could come in and begin to work as the #2 Tight End until he is ready to take over. In Green Bay, he would work with Jermichael Finley and Aaron Rodgers. In Atlanta, Anthony Gonzalez and Matt Ryan. In San Francisco, it would be Vernon Davis and Colin Kaepernick.
Eifert is definitely a late 1st round prospect. It seems more likely that he will go late on Thursday night. But, this is probably a better opportunity for his future career. The Packers probably line up best with his talents are a pass catching Tight End.
