Prospect Evaluation: Notre Dame Prospect Andrew Williams

One of the Top Prospects in the 2014 class is Defensive Linemen/Outside Linebacker Andrew Williams. Williams is from the same High School as current Notre Dame signee Issac Rochell. Notre Dame coaches are hoping that the connection helps the Irish land their ideal candidate at the CAT linebacker position.

Pass Rushing

Williams is a relentless pass rusher when given the opportunity. It is apparent that he is a very raw athlete. He seems to get to the Quarterback with sheer force and speed as opposed to technique. He does not tackle very well either. He merely casts the Quarterback aside like a rag doll.

Coverage

Williams does demonstrate an ability to cover in his film. He mainly rushes the passer or blocks on the Offensive Line. But, Williams is extremely athletic. It is something that he can be coached up to do. Ultimately, the CAT Linebacker will not be asked to cover frequently anyway.

Size

The Eagle’s Christian Academy player checks in at 6’4″ 231lbs. In interview videos, he looks ripped and chiseled. He has prototypical size for a 4-3 Weakside End or a 3-4 Outside Linebacker.

Offers

Every collegiate program in the country seems to be after Williams including Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and USC. He currently lists 40 offers. Many programs are recruiting Williams extremely hard too. He has received over 100 letters at a time from college programs such as Tennessee and Ole Miss.

247Sports has Williams ranked as a 4-star prospect and the 190th best player overall. Williams is extremely raw but has the ability to become a superior college player and a 1st round draft pick with the proper coaching. He is a ball of clay that just needs to be molded.
