According to Brandon Huffman at Scouts.com, 5-star DE and Notre Dame commit Eddie Vanderdoes will release a statement regarding his situation. In his article Huffman quotes Vanderdoes as saying: “I will be coming out with a statement soon regarding my situation as speculation keeps moving further and further from anything resembling the truth in this.”
The fact that Vanderdoes or his family has failed to mention Notre Dame in any of their statements does not bode well for the Irish. If Vanderdoes wanted to end the speculation earlier he would have reaffirmed his commitment to Notre Dame with a quick statement as soon as rumors spread, in the same way that RB commit Greg Bryant released a statement reconfirming his commitment prior to signing day.
I doubt, and reports support, that Kelly will not let Vanderdoes out of his commitment if he decides to commit to another school. Notre Dame does not intend to punish Vanderdoes or his future, but simply follow the precedent set by other universities in these situations. Hopefully, Vanderdoes stays with the Irish or at least gives it a year before transfering. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
