Kyle Allen surprised everyone by selecting Texas A&M Monday afternoon. He announced his decision via Twitter at 4 p.m. ET.
Allen was slated to visit Notre Dame this weekend. The Fighting Irish believed that they had an excellent chance at landing the 4-star/5-star Quarterback from Scottsdale, Arizona. Now, the Fighting Irish will have to turn to another prospect to fill their desperate needs at the Quarterback position.
At the beginning of the Spring Semester in 2013, the Fighting Irish had 5 Quarterbacks on their roster. Landing another Quarterback in the 2014 class was not a necessity. However, with the transfer of Gunner Kiel and the indefinite suspension of Everett Golson, Notre Dame must land a Quarterback or two in this year’s recruiting class.
Who are Notre Dame’s targets? Brandon Dawkins has been on the brink of committing to Notre Dame since the announcement of Everett Golson’s suspension. Notre Dame also has offers out to Oklahoma Quarterback David Cornwell and South Carolina Quarterback Jacob Park. At this moment, neither seem like an option for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame must strongly believe that both Hendrix and Golson will return to next year. With these players and Zaire, Notre Dame would have 3 players, which is a solid minimum for the position. If they do not, they will quickly extend offers to other Quarterbacks as soon as tomorrow. Notre Dame could have one Quarterback, Zaire, if they do not return. Thus, the Irish would need to land two Quarterbacks.
