Notre Dame landed a commitment from a 6-3″ 190 lbs Punter from Carrollton, Georgia. His name is Tyler Newsome. He landed his offer yesterday after performing at Notre Dame’s Football Camp.

The advantage that Notre Dame gets from viewing a player in camp is that the staff gets up close at the prospect. The downside is that the prospect could only be showing his very best. In other words, it could be a fluke.

The Fighting Irish currently have four specialists on their team: Punter/Kicker Kyle Brindza, Kicker Nick Tausch, transfer Punter Alex Wulfeck and Long Snapper Scott Daly.

According to Rivals, Newsome also held an offer from Air Force. Newsome is not rated on any recruiting services. Recruiting services do not typically rate punters until they land an offer or give a commitment to a school.

Brian Kelly has offered a few specialists in his tenure at Notre Dame. These players include LS Scott Daly and K Kyle Brindza.

The Fighting Irish now have 12 commitments in the 2014 class.
