Max Redfield is one of the most talented Athletes that Notre Dame has in the 2013 Incoming Freshman Class. Schools, such as Ohio State, recruited Redfield exclusively at Wide Receiver. Others, such as USC, recruited Redfield as a Safety. Notre Dame is going to try to do a little bit of both, according to Eric Hansen who interviewed the 5-star Athlete from Mission Viejo, California.
Redfield told Hansen:
“The coaches talked to me about playing both ways a little bit. They said if I could get the defense down, they might throw me in at receiver every now and then. A wide range of other schools offered me a chance to play receiver and safety as well.”
The question will be how much will the Irish coaches ask Redfield to do on the Defensive side of the football. Currently, Notre Dame has Farley and Shumate slated as starters at the backend of the secondary. Sophomore Nicky Baratti, Austin Collinsworth and Eliar Hardy fighting for playing time as well. Where does Redfield fit into this mix? Do the coaches expect him to start or only play in certain packages? If they only expect him to play in certain packages then he is a lock to Offense in some capacity for the Fighting Irish.
As a Junior, Max Redfield caught 32 passes for 528 yards and 5 touchdowns. Redfield definitely has the skils to be a receiver at the next level. Notre Dame will need help at the receiver position with only T.J. Jones and DaVaris Daniels returning as playmakers.
