Notre Dame Football Recruiting: DE Grant Blankenship Commits To ND

Yesterday, Notre Dame landed a commitment from Defensive End Grant Blankenship. Notre Dame was a childhood favorite of his. Blankenship hails from The Colony, Texas. He has offers from 29 schools including: Arkansas, Oklahoma and Oregon.

According to 247Sports, he is the 23rd best Strongside Defensive End and a 3-star player overall. Rivals has a similar rating for Blankenship. They have him rated as the 26th best Strongside Defensive End and a 3-star player. Scout has him lower as the 54th best Defensive End.

It is unclear what position Blankenship will play at Notre Dame. He currently checks in at 6-5 240 lbs. Blankenship could play either Defensive End or Outside Linebacker. If he were to play Defensive End, he would need to gain 30 lbs – 50 lbs. It could be likely that he will start at Outside Linebacker and grow into a situational Defensive End like Romeo Okwara or Ishaq Williams.

On Film, Blankenship shows relentless pursuit as a Defensive End. He gets off blocks well. He has the attributes to play either position. But, as a Outside Linebacker, he would probably be a CAT Linebacker.

Notre Dame has 14 commitments now in the 2014 class. The 14 commitments give the Irish the 7th best recruiting class, according to Rivals.com.
