By now, most Notre Dame fans have probably seen the video from WPDE, a local Myrtle Beach news station. There is another video from WANE. In that video, he discusses a few others things that were not discussed in the initial video such as the fact that he is in Chicago currently.
Both videos are lacking contrition from Golson, which begs us to ask the question: Is Everett Golson on the right path? Being articulate in your answers is an extremely difficult thing. Especially, when an individual is put in a situation where they are going to be highly scrutinized.
But, Everett’s answers are concerning for one reason. He does not discuss his off-the-field issues and how he is going to correct them. In the WPDE video, he deflects the questions that were related to his dismissal. In the WANE video, when asked what can improve upon, he discusses being more comfortable with his teammates and his footwork. But, no single answer is about how he will perform better off of the field.
Football clearly comes very easy to Golson. In his first semester at Notre Dame, he was impressing Notre Dame fans with his playmaking ability. In his second season in an Irish uniform, he lead the Irish to their first undefeated regular season since 1988. It was clear that Golson would progress in a dynamic playmaker.
Golson needs to simply take a step back and re-prioritize. If he makes an effort to put academics first, everything else will come to him. Notre Dame and Coach Kelly obviously believe in him or they would not be welcoming him back to Notre Dame.
But if Golson does not clean up his act outside of Notre Dame stadium, he will not much inside of it.
