Malik Zaire
Ht: 6’0″    Wt: 208
Quarterback
Archbishop Alter High School, Kettering, Ohio

A lot has been written and speculated about the Freshman lefty from Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio. Will he play or not? Certainly if he does not play then this #2 ranking can be wiped away from his name. But, if he does play frequently then a #1 might have been applicable for Zaire.

Chuck Martin commented in spring practice how well Zaire was picking up Notre Dame’s offense system. He was obviously picked it up better than Kiel had than previous year and just as good as Rees had in 2010. Zaire has the raw athletic skills and football brains to be an impact player early on in his career.

Preferably Kelly would like to keep Zaire on the bench for the 2013 season. The further distance (in terms of eligibility) that Kelly can put between Golson and Zaire is critical. However, Zaire is the only complete Quarterback on Notre Dame’s roster currently. It is the classic choice between winning now and winning later.
