As reported by Irish Illustrated and Keith Arnold at NBC Sports, Notre Dame safety Nick Baratti suffered a shoulder injury in Notre Dame’s first week of practice that will likely sideline him for the entire 2013 season. Notre Dame has not confirmed or denied the report, but Arnold reported that Barrati’s father posted on his Facebook account that his son would miss the 2013 season. Nick Baratti posted the following on his Twitter account: “Everything happens for a reason”.
Last season Baratti provided productive minutes in key games for the Irish to include a crucial interception of Michigan’s Denard Robinson as Notre Dame tried to replace Jamoris Slaughter and Austin Collinsworth who were lost to injuries. This season Notre Dame enters camp with Mathais Farley, Eliar Hardy, Elijah Shumate, Austin Collinsworth and Max Redfield all fighting for time at the safety position. In the end, Baratti’s injury may prove to be a positive as he can redshirt a year and come back at full strength with another year of eligibility.
