2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting
Notre Dame recently offered Kolin Hill, a Defensive Linemen from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas. Many pundits have called this offer a reach for the Fighting Irish because Hill only has offers from Boise State, Colorado, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and UTEP. Additionally, Hill is only a 2-star prospect. Fighting Irish fans want to land 5-star prospect at this point in the season. But, the coaching staff obviously sees something in Kolin Hill.
Hill is a max effort individual. He makes most of his plays getting off the play quickly and hustling to the play. He makes several plays in the backfield and is very disruptive. His hustle and aggression cause the Offense to make mistakes. At 6’2″ 222 lbs, he is near the profile fit for an Outside Linebacker. Based on his skill set of being a player who is better at making plays going forward, he would probably play CAT Linebacker.
All but one play was made against the run in his Senior highlight film. If he projects to playing Outside Linebacker in Notre Dame’s 3-4 Defense, he will need to develop an ability to cover the pass, even if he plays CAT Linebacker. Additionally, the CAT Linebacker is needed to hold the edge. Therefore, Hill would need to add 25 to 30 lbs. before he would be ready to play every snap.
Hill lacks offers because he lacks a true position. He is undersized in terms of height and weight to play Defensive End in most defenses. In the 3-4, there are question marks as to whether or not he can actually play in space. But, overall, Hill claims to run a 4.56 40-yard dash and looks fairly athletic on film. He could be developed into a solid contributor by his Junior year.
