Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Tranquill Flips To Notre Dame

2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting

In a relatively surprise move, Drue Tranquill has flipped his commitment from Purdue to Notre Dame. Tranquill had been committed to the Boilermakers since this summer. But, when a Notre Dame offer came in August, he began to rethink his recruitment. Tranquill was very through in deciding between Purdue and Notre Dame.

Today, in text messages to various media outlets, Tranquill informed the world that he had made his decision.

Notre Dame wants Tranquill to play Inside Linebacker, a position that he does not currently play. Tranquill is extremely fast and athletic. It will take him time to build up to taking on Offensive Guards in a 3-4 Defense. If Notre Dame picks up commitments from Nile Sykes then Notre Dame may have the flexibility to put him back at Safety.

Tranquill had offers from Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He is rated as a 4-star recruit by 247Sports.

Tranquill is the 18th commitment in the 2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting class. The loss of Tranquill is devastating to Purdue as they had pegged him as the cornerstone of their class on Defense.
