2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting

Notre Dame made up significant ground for Offensive Linemen Damien Mama when he visited on October 19th for the USC game. However, they did not make up enough ground with the Bellflower, California product. Mama announced, via Twitter, that he will be attending USC, UCLA, Alabama or BYU.

This is not a significant blow for the Fighting Irish. They currently have great depth along the Offensive Line. Additionally, they will be bringing in Quenton Nelson, Alex Bars, Sam Mustipher and Jimmy Byrne in this class. Damien Mama will be an incredible Offensive Guard in two to three years. He could be similar to current San Diego Chargers 1st Rounder and former Alabama Offensive Guard DJ Fluker.

However, this could mean something else in Notre Dame recruiting for the rest of the year. It is no secret that Damien Mama, Tyler Luatua and Juju Smith are close friends. This factor is of course not determinative in their recruiting. But, it does not help Notre Dame in the recruiting of Smith and Luatua.

Ultimately, it will probably not make the decision for either recruit. But, it is something to take note of.
