2014 Notre Dame Football Recruiting
From Anthony Fasano to Troy Niklas, Notre Dame has dominated at the Tight End position. The Irish have had one 1st Round pick and three 2nd Round selections. Notre Dame has had its ups and downs at other position but the Tight End spot remained completely stocked. Last year, Notre Dame land Florida Tight End Mike Heuerman and Texas Tight End Durham Smythe. With Troy Niklas, Ben Koyack and these Freshman, the future of the position is solid.
But, the richer keep getting richer. Notre Dame fans should enjoy the fact that this finally applies to them. The Irish Coaching Staff has the opportunity to land another top Tight End in the 2014 recruiting class.
On Wednesday, Tyler Luatua, a 6’4″ 230 lbs Tight End from La Mirada, California, announced his Top 2. It was not a surprise to anyone that Luatua has a Top 2 of Alabama and Notre Dame.
Luatua’s brother currently plays for the Crimson Tide. He officially visited Tuscaloosa on November 9th. Luatua visited Notre Dame for the USC game on October 19th.
He does not have a timetable for his decision. Notre Dame should still be considered the favorite. Family connections are always important but Notre Dame has more to offer Luatua. The Irish can offer an excellent education as well as an offense that utilizes their Tight Ends better than most teams. However, Alabama is the 800 lbs. guerrilla in the room. No recruitment is a slam dunk with a 3-time BCS champion in the last four years.
