2013 Notre Dame Football
Brian Kelly won his 4th straight Senior Day on Saturday defeating BYU, 23-13. Despite dominating most of the game on both sides of the ball, the game was still in doubt into the 4th but the defense held firm multiple times.
Notre Dame opened the game by stopping BYU and then immediately scoring on a 61-yard touchdown pass to DaVaris Daniels. After that, Notre Dame scored on a 2 yard Tarean Folston rush and three field goals. The Offense left points on the board which would have made the game much more comfortable. This included a 4th Quarter interception thrown by Senior Tommy Rees.
Tommy Rees ended his Notre Dame career with a 235 yard and 1 touchdown passing performance against the Cougars. His favorite target T.J. Jones had 5 catches for 95 yards.
Senior Day was just as much about the Irish youngsters as it was about the Seniors. On Offense, Matt Hegarty stepped in when Nick Martin went down at Center. On Defense, perhaps more surprisingly, Jarron Jones doubled his season output with 7 tackles and a blocked field goal. Mike Elston deserves credit for how he played.
Several questions remain in the season. Can the Irish defeat Stanford in a much warmer California next week? Where will they play in December or January? But, many fans want to know other off-season questions. Will Nix or Tuitt return? What 5th year players will return?
