Notre Dame Football: Hardy and Shumate Suspended For Stanford Game

2013 Notre Dame Football

Notre Dame’s season has been hammered by suspension and injuries. The Stanford-Notre Dame battle on Saturday will be no different. According to Bill Hardy, father of Eilar Hardy, his son and Elijah Shumate were suspended for being late to a team meeting. This is unfortunate for the Irish but may be a blessing in disguise for fans who want to see former 5-star prospect Max Redfield take the field for the Fighting Irish at the Safety position.

Eilar Hardy had been coming on strong lately in his first true season playing for the Irish. Hardy had 8 tackles and 7 tackles in the past two games for the Fighting Irish. Hardy has 25 tackles on the season. This suspension hampers the progress of the Junior safety.

Elijah Shumate was in his first full season at Safety and has played inconsistently so far. The Sophomore Safety was injured during season. He has collected 23 tackles this season.

The depth chart had Austin Collinsworth and Elijah Shumate or  Eilar Hardy listed as starters. At the second safety position, it was listed as Shumate or Hardy. Max Redfield is listed as the 3rd player behind Shumate and Hardy. Notre Dame will probably go with a combination of Collinsworth, Farley and Redfield at Safety tomorrow.
