Notre Dame Football: Mike Denbrock to Serve As Offensive Coordinator in Bowl Game

2013 Notre Dame Football

Brian Kelly has tapped Mike Denbrock to serve as the Offensive Coordinator in the bowl game. Denbrock is filling in for the departed Chuck Martin. Martin will be introduced today as the Miami (OH) Head Coach.

Denbrock has served as Offensive Coordinator twice in his coaching career. From 1992-1995, Denbrock served under Brian Kelly as his Offensive Coordinator. During this period, his offenses ranked first in the MIFC in both total scoring and total offense.

Mike Denbrock had been serving as the team’s Outside Wide Receivers Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.

Kelly has not stated who will permanently take over the position. But, Kelly typically likes to hire someone that he trusts. This is why Martin was the Offensive Coordinator in the first place. Kelly has known Denbrock since they were Graduate Assistants in the late 1980s.

This may be a permanent move for the Fighting Irish. While Denbrock can be hailed for his on the field successes, he is all an excellent recruiter. In 2012, he was selected as one of the top recruiters by Rivals and 247Sports.

Denbrock would be a solid hire but many believe that the Irish need a fresh face and a new voice.
