Notre Dame Football: 2014 Scholarship Numbers

Notre Dame Football

Notre Dame has struggled to get to the maximum 85 scholarships for several years. This has been due to inadequate recruiting in some years and significant transfers. Many teams deal with this issue by over signing in each class. However, Notre Dame does not have this luxury. They may have a chance to get to 85 scholarships this year.

84 out of 85 currently

The Irish are currently 84 out of 85 scholarships if Stephon Tuitt returns to Notre Dame. Additionally, this would depend on Collinsworth, Moore and Lombard returning as 5th year players . If all of these players would return, Notre Dame would only take one more player in this recruiting class.

83 out of 85 without Tuitt

If Tuitt leaves, which is a likely scenario, the Irish will be left with 83 scholarship players. Then the Irish would be able to take two players in the 2014 recruiting class. This would probably be Nyles Morgan and Isaiah McKenzie.

Possible Transfers

Another thing that could alter the scholarship amount is transfers. Every year, it seems to happen. It is just impossible to predict who it is. Last year, it was DaVonte Neal, Gunner Kiel and Justin Ferguson. George Atkinson and Josh Atkinson appear to be upset with their current status. But, would they transfer before their Senior season?
