Notre Dame Football: Notre Dame 2nd Most Valuable Team

Notre Dame Football

The NFL reigns supreme in American sports today. College Football plays second fiddle to the NFL. However, the monetary gap closes each day.

Texas, the most valuable college football team at $875 million, would rank at 29th on the NFL list tied with the St. Louis Rams.

Notre Dame ranks second on the list of most valuable teams at $811 million. This would rank the Irish just behind the Oakland Raiders who are valued at $825 million.

The Irish and Longhorns are significantly higher than 3rd and 4th place. Michigan checks in at $685.5 million. Michigan rival Ohio State is valued at $674.8 million.

For all those who wonder why Notre Dame demands national television contracts, independence and their own bowl deals, these numbers spell out exactly how the Irish beat those skeptics.

These numbers also explain why college football is a big business that demands large television contracts. ESPN signed a 12-year, $5.64 billion deal to televise  the College Football Playoff.

Notre Dame can increase their value greatly if they make the College Football Playoff once or twice during that 12-year span.
