DaVaris Daniels lived in Brian Kelly’s doghouse during the 2013 season. At times, he flashed All-American talent. Others, he was no where to be found on the field. Fortunately for Daniels he not deal with Kelly at least until the summer semester. Unfortunately, he was suspended for the spring semester by University today. The reason was an undisclosed academic issue.
Daniels was expected to lead the Fighting Irish in 2014. He likely still has that opportunity in the fall. However, this is another disappointment in the career of a Wide Receiver who should have already developed into a consistent threat for Notre Dame. Hopefully, this time helps Daniels recognize that his football career is precious.
Daniels issued the following statement via ESPN:
I understand that attending the University of Notre Dame is a privilege and with that comes a certain level of academic responsibility. Therefore, I will not be attending Notre Dame in the Spring semester but fully expect to re-enroll in the Summer semester to earn my degree and continue playing football for the Irish!
Daniels collected 49 catches for 745 yards and seven touchdowns in his Junior season.
