Notre Dame Football Recruiting
American Hertiage Athlete Isaiah McKenzie “committed” to Notre Dame despite lacking the GPA and test scores at the time to do so. Since then, McKenzie has worked hard to show the Irish coaching staff and admissions office that he belongs in South Bend.
However, he recently “opened up” his recruitment to include other schools that recently appeared on his radar. Florida and Oregon offered scholarships after the turn of the calendar to a new year. Tonight, McKenzie announced where the Gators, Ducks, Irish and others stood with him via everyone’s favorite recruiting information hotspot, Twitter.
McKenzie listed Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida as his Top 5 in no particular order.
Where does Notre Dame likely stand in that list? The Irish are likely like the leader for McKenzie. However, when Notre Dame was his leader or the school he was “committed” to, McKenzie’s options were limited to schools like Rutgers. Obviously, the Irish are facing much tougher competition on the recruiting trail.
McKenzie will officially visit Florida on January 17th and Ole Miss on January 24th. This leaves January 31st as a possible date for him to travel to Oregon if he wishes to sign before National Signing Day.
National Signing Day is Wednesday, February 5th.
As demonstrated during the Under Armour All-America Game, McKenzie is a rare explosive talent similar to Percy Harvin and others. His versatility would allow him to be utilized in Kick Returns, Punt Returns, running and catching at Notre Dame. It is impossible to categorize McKenzie, even if as “Athlete”. He is simply a playmaker.
