Notre Dame Football Recruiting

It is clear that Notre Dame needs “beef” along the Defensive Line after losing Nose Guard Louis Nix III. Recently, Notre Dame has been pursuing several prospects at the eleventh hour including Marcus Griffith, Michael Sawyers, Trey Lealaimatafao and Chris Nelson. Add to that list Daniel Cage, a Defensive Linemen from Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Cage checks in at 6’3″ 295 lbs and has an excellent frame to add some solid weight to. He has offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State and Notre Dame among others. Cage is considered a 4-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Scout. He has excellent speed and athleticism for his size.

Cage will visit Louisville on January 17th, Michigan State on January 24th and Missouri on January 31st. He has not set an official visit to Notre Dame yet.

The Irish commitments include Grant Blankenship, Jonathan Bonner, Jay Hayes and Andrew Trumbetti.

The Defensive scheme has not been clarified yet. The Irish may play a 3-4 or a 4-3. This will change who can play where.  For example, Jacob Matuska could play Defensive End in a 3-4 and a Defensive Tackle in a 4-3.
