Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Charles Nelson Down To Four

Notre Dame Football Recruiting

Charles Nelson, an athlete from Daytona Beach, Florida, is down to a top four of Notre Dame, Oregon, USC and West Virginia. He dropped Florida yesterday.

He is consistently thought of as a 3-star recruit by major recruiting services.

Nelson has a great speed. He claims a 4.39 40-yard dash. He checks in at 5’8.5″ and 170 lbs. If it were not for a lack of size, Nelson would likely be a 4-star or even 5-star recruit with his excellent athleticism and speed.

The Irish would likely use Nelson as a Slot Receiver, Wide Receiver or a returner.

Is Nelson an alternative to Isaiah McKenzie? McKenzie is clearly a better prospect than Nelson. It is unclear whether or not Notre Dame would take both players if they want to commit. What is clear is that Notre Dame wants a small speed athlete type in this recruiting class.

Nelson is currently visiting USC. He will visit for Oregon on January 24th and West Virginia on January 31st. Nelson already visited South Bend in December.

Nelson is being recruited by Scott Booker, current Notre Dame Tight End Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.

247Sports’ Crystal Ball feature predicts that Nelson will select the Fighting Irish.
