Notre Dame Football Recruiting
Notre Dame’s quest to land another Defensive Tackle before the end of this recruiting cycle continues this weekend when former Texas commitment Courtney Garnett visits South Bend. The Irish coaching staff approached Garnett with an offer earlier this week, which lead to the official visit this weekend.
Garnett is considered to be an Oklahoma lean. He recently visited the University of Oklahoma on January 17th. Garnett was also visited by Sooners Head Football Coach Bob Stoops.
The 6’2″ 280 lbs Defensive Tackle originally committed to Texas on June 4th. He de-committed following the upheaval with the Longhorn coaching staff on January 7th.
It must be extremely difficult making a decision after it was made for six months. This ultimately should weigh in Oklahoma’s favor. Notre Dame simply does not have the personal relationships that Bob Stoops and his staff do with him. Playing time, academics, scheme and tradition are typically pointed to as the deciding factors in a decision. However, the personal relationships may be the most important thing involved.
If the Irish do convince Garnett to come to Notre Dame then they will be an underrated player with a solid offer sheet. 247Sports considers him a 3-star recruit and the 61st best Defensive Tackle in the country. However, Garnett has offers from Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Notre Dame.
