Notre Dame Football: Jones and Atkinson Each Run 4.48 40-Yard Dash

Notre Dame Football

Notre Dame fans would not have believed that T.J. Jones and George Atkinson III would run the 40-yard dash in the same time. But, today, they did exactly that.

Both former Irish players ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds officially. T.J. Jones actually had the fastest unofficial time at 4.40 seconds. Atkinson’s fastest time was 4.41.

One player helped their draft stock and another undoubted hurt it.

T.J. Jones most likely showed that he posses solid speed. It is not elite speed but very good. In his other events, he did not show that he was an off the charts athlete.

Atkinson probably needed to run a sub 4.4 to improve his draft stock. However, his track numbers will probably demonstrated that he has great speed beyond the 40-yard mark. Does that actually matter in football?

T.J. Jones will likely be selected on the third day of the draft. Atkinson is probably fighting to be drafted.
