Notre Dame Basketball Recruiting
As Notre Dame’s worst season since ’98-’99 ended, preparation on the next season began. On Tuesday, Mike Brey and the Notre Dame Head Coaching Staff received a commitment from Point Pleasant Beach Senior Point Guard Matt Farrell. Farrell was originally committed to Boston College on October 22, 2013 but decommitted on November 20, 2013.
Farrell checks in at 6’1″ 170. He is a “score-first” type of Point Guard. In watching the above video, he may remind fans of former Notre Dame Guard Kyle McAlarney. He should have the flexibility to play Point or Shooting Guard at Notre Dame.
Most services rate him as a 3-star recruit. Farrell had offers from Boston College, Dartmouth, Fordham, Monmouth, Rhode Island, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s and William & Mary. Some fans are not impressed by low-level AQ, Atlantic 10, Ivy League, Metro Atlantic and Colonial Athletic offers. But, current Notre Dame Guard Steve Vasturia had almost the exact same offers.
Vasturia had an excellent Freshman season. He averaged 5.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest.
So, Notre Dame fans should not worry. He is the perfect type of play for Mike Brey’s Offense.
Farrell joins two players who are already signed in the 2014 class. These players are 3-star Power Forward Bonzie Colson and 4-star Power Forward Martin Geben.
