Notre Dame Women's Basketball: Irish to Play For National Title

One year following their loss in the national semifinal, the Fighting Irish defeated Maryland in the first of this year’s national semifinals, 87-61. Additionally, the Lady Irish remained unbeaten at 37-0.

The Lady Terrapins were the closest to the Lady Irish this season. Notre Dame only won by 4 points when the teams met in January. This game was much different.

The Lady Irish defeated the Terrapins by 26 points. The Irish were in control since 7:43 to go in the first half when they went on a 18-6 run to take a 41-27 lead. The Irish took a 48-31 lead into halftime.

The main reason for Notre Dame’s dominance was Kayla McBride. She had 28 points and 7 rebounds.

The Irish could meet another undefeated team in the UCONN Huskies if they are able to defeat the Stanford Cardinal in the second national semifinal. The teams have not met this year. Notre Dame has won 7 out of the last 9 meetings.

The Women’s Basketball National Title is Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
